Easy Tips for A Safe SummerEasy Tips for A Safe Summer

The heat of summer is here to stay! Make sure your dog stays happy and healthy this summer with summer heat safety tips. Dogs can only rid their body of heat while panting. They do not have sweat glands – as humans do – except for a few on their feet. Panting alone is not enough when the temperature soars.

To keep your dog happy and healthy when the temperatures soar, try these easy tips.

  • Make sure your dog has plenty of water. Use an automatic dog waterer for outside dogs to assure they get plenty of fresh water
  • Never leave your dog in the car, even for a couple of minutes
  • Watch out for heatstroke. Exercise with your dog in the cooler temperatures of the morning or evening.
  • Better yet, go swimming with your dog or play fetch with water toys
  • Prevent sunburn on your dog. If you have a white or light colored dog, the tops of ears and nose are susceptible to sunburn. Appling sunscreen may help prevent this.
